The Software Innovation Pole Cluster was established as a result of co-operation between 19 leading software technology research centres, companies and technology transfer organizations on September 21, 2007, building on the co-operation of the industrial partners of the University of Szeged and the e-Szeged consortium.

The members of the Cluster have realised, that based on their previous co-operation, through the coordination of their development efforts more competitive technologies, products and services could be created. By expanding cooperation and by even more effective co-ordination of co-operations, the Cluster provides members with the opportunity to strengthen the high added value R & D activities, the related training and education, and the creation of an infrastructure for knowledge intensive activities.

The vision of the Software Innovation Pole Cluster is to promote the market and economic efficiency of the member companies, relying on the international knowledge base of the University of Szeged (SZTE) and the practical results of the cluster member companies, through business collaborations, innovative developments and international cooperation.

The Cluster intends to contribute to the development of university education and to the efficient and conscientious use of the resources and competences of small and medium-sized enterprises representing the software industry, so that the IT industry in the Southern Great Plain region and Szeged becomes a significant factor of the local economy.
